our start

Agri Equipment Service was started by Richard Thompson in 1987.  He had been a part of Berens & Thompson Construction, which had begun to lean more toward the general contracting over the agricultural part of the business.  Because of his love of the Ag industry, Richard decided to split off on his own, and thus Agri Equipment Service was born.

More about our history...

At first, Richard worked out of a post building located on his home property in Otsego.  He started with just himself and two other employees.  In 1990, Allen Lynema was hired in and bought into the company.

With the company continuing to expand, Richard and Allen decided they needed a new work space.  So in 1997, they built a new facility in Allegan, which is where they are currently located.  They soon had the opportunity to purchase Michigan Mill Equipment from Mike Fitzgerald, and in 2003 this purchased was finalized.  Acquiring this company brought with it new customers as well as new suppliers and product lines that were not available to Agri Equipment Service on its own.  These new product lines allowed them to get into the seed and edible bean industries.  These new opportunities, along with a budding reputation for good, quality work led to more expansion.  In 2015, the home base facility was enlarged by 50% in order to accommodate the growing business.

At the end of 2015, Richard officially retired from the business.  Although he is retired, his love of the Ag industry keeps him coming back - he still stops in to check on things regularly.  Today Agri Equipment Service & Michigan Mill Equipment runs with 3, three-man crews.  This has allowed the flexibility to handle larger projects while still being able to handle the smaller ones and maintenance issues as they arise.  They have worked with the same reputable suppliers and contractors for many years, which allows them to provide the quality and consistency that their customers deserve and have come to expect.
